Top 5- Players to look out for in the 2014/2015 season.

July 22, 2014 / premierleaguehq / Edit

The Barclays Premier League is full of world class talents from a range of clubs, and the 13/14 campaign had no shortage of world stars with the likes of Luis Suarez, Eden Hazard and Aaron Ramsey all performing to the best of their ability. A host of big names have joined the greatest league in the world this summer, in the hope of guiding their team to success. But who will shine this year? Here are the top five players to look out for in the upcoming season:

5. Luke Shaw (Manchester United)

luke-shaw

Its hard to believe that Luke Shaw is still 19 years of age, after 2 years in the saints team, he has emerged as one of the worlds top young talents. Luke Shaw had a fantastic 13/14 campaign, playing a vital role in the success of Southampton FC. Luke Shaw’s performances on the pitch earned himself a spot in the 2014 World Cup squad, and more importantly a £30m move to English giants Manchester Utd. Luke Shaw is likely to make an instant impact at Old Trafford as his qualities will be a major asset to Manchester Utd and their quest to return to the Champions League. Luke Shaw’s pace and work rate down the left flank, overlapping the winger, will be a danger to any defence and the 19 year od created 39 chances last season from the left-back position, proving he can be a major attacking threat. Luke Shaw is also an impressive defender, and has shown maturity at the back for such a young player. Luke Shaw will be a fan favourite at Old Trafford, and an important player to Manchester Utd’s season, and is definitely a player to keep an eye on in the coming season.

4. Adam Lallana (Liverpool)

Another former Southampton star, Adam Lallana played an instrumental role at Southampton in the 13/14 season, netting 9 goals and setting up 6 from midfield. Lallana pulled the strings at Southampton and will play a similar role at Liverpool. Lallana’s creativity will be a major asset to Liverpool, and his intricate dribbling on the ball suits their attacking style of play perfectly. Lallana will flourish in the current Liverpool side, creating many chances for the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling. Expect Adam Lallana to be around the top assisters next season as he will play an important role in liverpools midfield, and will be their main man for inspiration in the middle of the park. Lallana will yet again be amongst the top players in the league next season, and could lead Liverpool to success in the process.

3. Siem De Jong (Newcastle)

De Jong, who is a product of Ajax’s famous youth academy, will add a variety of options to Newcastle United’s front line and midfield, and will do his best to make fans forget about Yohan Cabaye, who left Newcastle for Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year. Getting his football education from Ajax’s youth academy, De Jong was trained to be a classic No. 10. That means he’s used to functioning as the central pivot in attacking midfield in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Wherever he plays, though, De Jong will often attempt to find space in the box and set up chances through short passes and clever one-two combinations. Whether playing as a midfielder or playing as an attacker, De Jong is always a creator. De Jong will definitely be an important player for Newcastle and could lead them to a potential Europa league spot next season.

2. Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez completed his £30m move from Barcelona to Arsenal this summer, after a brilliant season with Barcelona scoring 19 goals in the process. Alexis Sanchez could be the player Arsenal were looking for to catapult their title challenge as he brings a host of talents to the Emirates. Alexis Sanchez brings a pace and power to the premier league, and will link up well with Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil. Sanchez is a versatile player, and capable playing across the whole front line of Arsenal’s attack, giving Arsenal more options going forward than they previously had. Alexis had the highest conversion rate in La Liga last season, with 19 goals in 61 games, proving he is a clinical player who knows how to put the ball in the net, and will do so for Arsenal next season. Sanchez’ pace and work rate will be a major benefit to arsenal and is definitely a player who will catch the eye next season.

1. Diego Costa

diego-costa

Diego Costa moved from Spanish club Atletico Madrid to Chelsea this summer for a big £32m and will be a massive signing for Chelsea, meaning they have finally acquired the striker that they have needed for so long. Last season Chelsea were fantastic around the field, with players like Hazard and Oscar running the show in big games, but could not compete for trophies because they lacked a natural born scorer. All of Chelsea’s strikers last season failed to provide for Chelsea and Mourinho himself constantly complained of having no main striker. Well now Chelsea have their man. Diego Costa scored 35 goals for Atletico last season, and was one of the best strikers in world football. Costa will bring the clinical nature that Chelsea so desperately needed and also has strong link up play. Expect Costa to link up well with Willian and Oscar around the opposing teams area and Chelsea will be a devastating attacking force. Chelsea with Costa is a scary prospect and Chelsea could potentially dominate English football with Costa leading the attack. Diego Costa will be amongst the top scorers of the premier league, and will be one of the premier leagues biggest stars next season.
